Hola! I am Anastasia Forte! I am a criminology major with a minor in psychology! I am a Seahawk Link, I am the Vice President of the Black Student Union, I am a Peer Mentor for the Upperman Center's Excellence Project, I am also a My Stand Mentor, so I am trained to recognize and help people who deal with domestic violence, sexual assaults, and things along those lines.
I live by the quote, "Excuses will always be there for you, opportunity won't." I live by this quote because there is no reason that I should hold myself back from an opportunity because I made an excuse. I'll always be tired, I'll always need food, need time to myself, need etc but like people say, "opportunities are once in a lifetime," and I shouldn't let them pass me by. My advice to incoming freshman is find your identity and ask or accept help when you need it. Identities are a huge part of everyone's lives whether they know them or not. I identify as so many things. I identify as female, African American, straight, criminology major, natural hair enthusiast, Hell's Kitchen fan, etc. Everything that you are and that you do is an identifier with you. You are not stuck with one identity because you are more than just that! Don't limit yourself because you think you have to! You are more than just what people see! Also when you need help ask or when you are offered help and you need it accept it. It's hard to admit that you are struggling, but struggle makes you stronger and when someone ask to help when you're struggling accept it. There's no reason you should be ready to pull out your hair or anything else when you have so many people, resources, and options available to you. I had this problem as a freshman. I didn't want anyone's help, I didn't think I needed it, but I definitely did and when I did got that help, it was marvelous and made my life 300 times easier. So UNCW has a bunch of traditions but my favorite is Midnite Madness. I love basketball and I love that we have a huge celebration to start the season with meeting the basketball players on both men and women's teams! Wag does late breakfast! There's fun and games on Hoggard lawn! Just everything about it is sooooo great! My favorite place to study on campus is between the Breezeway (the bridge between the union and the center), Clocktower Lounge (2nd floor of Fisher Student Center), and the Upperman Center (2nd Floor of Fisher Student Center). Before graduation, I hope to at least try to surf. However I cannot swim but I mean what else are floaties for right!? I love ramen, all ramen, like ever. I love gifs. I LOVE CHEESE. I am a huge Kanye West Fan. This is one of my main identifiers! Kanye All Day 5eva! |
